There is real beauty here, such as the blurry "soft tab face" or the soothing culmination of "stream out effortlessly even." But more important than the beauty is the way the poem's perform the total insistence of our culture on physicality. The poems do not propose to offer any solutions to this problem (how could poems solve this problem?) and I'm thankful that they avoid a hubristic or pompous analysis of advertising rhetoric. I've read enough elitist chiding of consumer fetishism to recognize that the power of advertising will not be muted by analysis. The value here is a dramatization of advertising's rhetorical mode, and an effort to put that mode at the service of critical writing.
